A veneer is an ultra-thin, durable, tooth shaped porcelain shell that covers the front side of a tooth. Veneers can improve the appearance of teeth that are permanently stained, poorly shaped, chipped, worn, or poorly spaced.
There are two types of veneers; direct veneers and indirect veneers. A direct veneer is built up by hand on the tooth surface most commonly using a tooth coloured resin. Indirect veneers are custom made in a dental laboratory then bonded onto the front of teeth to create a durable, beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can greatly improve the appearance of a person’s teeth, making them more uniform, changing their colour and size. However they do generally require tooth preparation meaning that they are not a reversible procedure.
